The Gardens of Augustus are also worth a stroll and the Villa San Michele is sure to steal your heart. With incredible seafood on offer and divine confection, you won’t go hungry in this happening summer spot.

Vibo Valentia is known for its harbour, an important commercial and tourist hub, and is an interesting yacht destination. The town was once a Greek settlement known as Hipponian, established at the end of the 7th century and later ruled by the Romans from 194 BC, when it took its name. However it was the Normans who built the castle in 1070, on the site of the old Acropolis, and when Frederick II established a new city in 1235, it changed its name to Monteleone. Once again in 1928 the town's name changed back to Vibo Valentina!

Even though Panarea has a rich history, including the remains of a Bronze Age village, tourism has not affected it much and it is still an authentic destination.
